Robotics - Introduction to Robotics

This is a year long elective in which students will explore the Engineering Design Process and Computer Programming using Lego Spike Prime software.  The Lego Mindstorms programming software uses a programming language, based off of Javascript and C++, called Block Coding.  Following a course of increasing challenging activities the students will create autonomous robots that navigate through their surroundings, perform functions, create dynamic works of art and battle ready robots.

Robotics 2 - Advanced Robotics

This is a year long elective in which the Robotics 1 is a prerequisite.  Student may skip Robotics if they have demonstrated advanced STEAM skills.  Students will expand on what they learned in Lego Spike Prime Programming with more advanced programming blocks by creating a robot for the FIRST LEGO League Competition.  This is a worldwide competition in which the students work together to Research a real world problem, create a solution using the help of experts, present their solution to other members of the staff and community. The competitions are held at Warner, we host the Qualifying round, advancing rounds are held at various schools and universities across Orange County.  Students will also use 3D modeling software such as TinkerCad and SketchUp to design and create models to print out on our 3D printers.  Students will also have an opportunity to create city/industrial/product designs working along professionals in the fields from city planners to engineers to designers.  Students will be introduced to more advanced programming to create custom apps for phones/tablets and be introduced to Arduino microcontrollers, Raspberry Pis, and JAVA/Python type programing code.
